What are Dental Veneers?dental veneers

Veneers are thin coverings placed over the front of your teeth to replace any imperfections that lie behind. If you have crooked, broken, or discolored teeth, they can give you your dream smile in just one or two appointments. Veneers can come in different shapes, but they look and feel completely natural. Here are some other common reasons our patients in Kennewick WA have decided to get veneers;

  • Their teeth had uneven spaces or a large gap between the upper front teeth

  • Their teeth were stained due to food or drinks.

  • Their teeth were too small or too large.

  • Their teeth were worn or chipped.

If you have any problems with your teeth, big or small, veneers can be a great choice to quickly restore your smile and bring back the smile you deserve. As an added benefit, once they are placed you’ll reduce your risk of cavities, this doesn’t mean you can stop brushing and flossing though. Twice a day everyday!

Types of Veneers

We have two types at Southridge Dental; porcelain and composite resin. Both have their own benefits, but here’s a list to help you understand the difference between the two:

Benefits to Porcelain;

      • They can be more durable than composite resin veneers.
      • The surface is very natural looking.
      • Minimal buffing on teeth to place them.
      • They are difficult to stain.
      • They are lab fabricated and provide the best esthetic (natural looking) result

Benefits to Composite Resin (also known as bonding);

    • These take just one visit.
    • Often zero or very little buffing (drilling) for placement.
    • They are easy to repair and place.
    • They generally cost less overall.

Steps to Your New Smile

If you choose to get porcelain veneers the process generally takes 1 to 2 appointments. First, a small amount of enamel is removed for space. With that space your teeth won’t feel any different, and the team will take a mold of your mouth to get the dimensions to prepare the final product. If your veneers are sent to a dental laboratory to be customized, Dr. Winterton will place temporary veneers while you wait.

If you choose to get composite resin veneers the steps needed can all be done within one appointment. At Southridge Dental we only use the best quality filling materials so you have the brightest smile, and in this case the material is that same composite resin. After the teeth are prepared, our dentist carefully bonds and sculpts the material using the best color for your smile. Once placed, a special light will be used to make them the right strength. Then you’re done! Our process in Kennewick for veneers will be customized to you, easy to do, and you’ll be comfortable with our team from start to finish.
