Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease is a disease of the gums. It starts when plaque builds up on the teeth, and the gum tissues begin to get inflamed. Inflammation over time causes breakdown of the bone and gums supporting the teeth in the mouth. When we perform an exam and cleaning in our Southridge dental office we always perform a thorough check and diagnosis of your periodontal condition to give you the knowledge and power to control this disease if needed.

Signs of gum disease include: gums that bleed easily when brushing or flossing, swollen red painful gums, or in severe cases, pus coming from around the teeth and halitosis (bad breath).

Periodontal disease is RAMPANT in America but is completely preventable and treatable. Though in most cases, damage caused by periodontal disease can’t be reversed, with proper care at home combined with professional cleanings, future damage is easily prevented.

Reason #138392 for why it’s not good to see a dentist “only when it hurts” – without professional cleanings periodontal disease in some form or another will very likely show up.
